The new season of the Fanatec GT2 European Series is all set to begin on 22 and 23 April in Monza. KTM teams will be battling for points and trophies for the first time in 2023 at the historic circuit just outside Milan. True Racing by Reiter Engineering are back for the new season alongside debutants RTR Projects with their KTM X-BOW GT2. Long-standing KTM driver Jan Krabec will be on driving duties for the Czech squad.
“I am so excited to return to some of Europe’s best circuits and compete for the full season in the Fanatec GT2 European Series,” said Krabec. For the 39-year-old, this year’s KTM programme brings an end to two years away from motorsport. Before taking a break, Krabec competed in numerous national and international races in a KTM X-BOW.
In 2019, he scored race wins in ADAC GT4 Germany and in the 24H Series, demonstrating his considerable skill and indicating that the partnership with RTR Projects is a promising one. “I am really happy to take the next step forward with the team,” Krabec continued. “We will work hard to rise to the new challenges.”
New challenges also await Stefan Rosina: “The field for the 2023 year is even stronger than last year,” said last season’s runner-up in the championship. “That being said, I am in good form and obviously proud to be part of the squad again. I am excited to see what I am capable of with my new teammates.” Rosina is sharing his #15 KTM X-BOW GT2 with Nicolas Saelens, the overall winner from the previous season.
Klaus Angerhofer and Sehdi Sarmini will be driving the #16 sister car. The pair of Austrians have excellent knowledge of the series and are among the favourites for podiums in the AM classification. Angerhofer will be competing on his own at the first round, before Sarmini returns to the fold at the second weekend at the Red Bull Ring.
Hubert Trunkenpolz showed back in 2021 that the KTM X-BOW is certainly capable of finishing within the top 3 in Monza, when he secured a podium placing at the KTM X-BOW GT2’s Fanatec GT2 European Series debut. Two years later, he and teammate Reinhard Kofler will be targeting the front of the race once again. The two True Racing by Reiter Engineering drivers will be behind the wheel of the #17 car.
Each of the two races in Monza lasts 50 minutes. The first starts at 12:35 on Saturday (22 April) and the second at 10:35 on Sunday (23 April). Both will be broadcast live on the series’ official website.
