KTM pulled off a notable triumph at the latest round of the Fanatec GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli, which formed part of the prestigious Spa 24 Hours weekend. Customer teams locked out all three podium spots in the Pro-Am class with their KTM X-BOW GT2. KTM also lifted the lid on its future development as a GT2 brand by unveiling an EVO version of the most popular car in the GT2 field.
Among the victors in the Ardennes were MZR. The KTM customer team, which has finished on the podium in every race so far this season, continued its successful year with two further podium finishes in Belgium. Reinhard Kofler and Martin Koch rounded out a successful weekend in race two, taking both the class win and the lead in the championship.
Simon Birch and Thomas Andersen also put together their best performance of the year so far in the GT2 European Series. “Wow, that was a really great weekend for us here in Belgium,” said Birch. “For the first time we were on the podium in both races.” The success of the 17-year-old Birch and his teammate demonstrated how well the KTM X-BOW GT2 concept is working, with young talent feeling just as comfortable behind the wheel as ambitious amateur drivers.
RTR Projects completed the 1-2-3 finish for KTM at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. The customer team from the Czech Republic finished third on Saturday, with their KTM X-BOW GT2 expertly piloted by Mato Homola and Petr Lisa. The podium was a welcome result for the reigning champions in the Am category, as the team had recently been struggling for form.
KTM has already plotted a course for the future development of its GT2 activities and took the opportunity to unveil the KTM X-BOW GT2 EVO at the Belgian endurance classic. The successor to the most popular car on the GT2 European Series grid has received some significant upgrades aimed at enhancing overall performance.
The KTM X-BOW GT2 EVO will be available from the fourth quarter of 2024. Next stop on the GT2 European Series calendar is the Hockenheimring from 19 to 21 July.
