Thanks to a strong performance at the season finale at the Nürburgring, Leo Pichler and Leon Wassertheurer wrapped up third place in the Junior classification of ADAC GT4 Germany, achieving the team’s aim for the season. For the two junior drivers from Razoon Racing, it is the biggest achievement of their young careers.
“I am extremely proud of the boys,” said Team Principal Dominik Olbert. “We set ourselves the target of being in and around the top three in the Junior classification by the end of the season. And we achieved that aim. My thanks go to the whole crew, to KTM and our other partners – particularly Thomas Brebeck and Milwaukee.”
There was plenty of tension across the race weekend before the party could start. The finale round of the season turned out to be a real strategic gamble, as changeable weather swept across the Nürburgring circuit. “We had a difficult qualifying session and had to start the race from 25th on the grid,” said Leon Wassertheurer. “It wasn’t a great starting point for us to fight for our championship position.”
Just like at Hockenheim two weeks ago, where Razoon Racing celebrated a glorious class victory, the team’s strategic prowess really came to the fore at the season finale. Many other cars started the race on rain tyres, whereas Dominik Olbert and his team opted for slicks.
It was a courageous decision, that ended up paying off and giving the driving duo precisely what they needed. The two junior drivers fought their way through the field in their KTM X-BOW GT4, making up ten positions on track and finishing tenth in class. The pair finished the season with 195 points, good enough for third in the championship with the same number of points as the second-placed team, who only finished second on account of better race finishes over the course of the season.
