Crafted by KTM, success on the racetrack in customer hands: Trophies and the silverware – including MZR’s recent win in the GT2 European Series – have turned the KTM X-BOW GT2 into one of the most successful models in the history of KTM in motorsport. With 30 victories and 34 pole positions to its name so far, the car has become a key part of KTM’s racing pedigree.
KTM’s decision to enter the new GT2 arena as a manufacturer came back in 2019, and with it a promise to take the fight to the likes of Audi, Lamborghini, Maserati, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche. The task was clear: Develop a car according to the GT2 regulations for use by customer teams and that is suitable to drivers of all levels of expertise and experience.
First year, first title
The KTM X-BOW GT2 made its on-track debut in spring 2021, and quickly demonstrated that KTM was on the right track with the development. Gentlemen drivers such as Swiss driver Christoph Ulrich were able to battle for class wins in the new GT2 European Series right off the bat. Not only that, Ulrich felt so at home in the car that he wrapped up the title in the Am class with customer team Sportec.
Interest in the KTM X-BOW GT2 grew, as did the amount of silverware in various teams’ trophy cabinets. Between 2021 and 2024, KTM customer teams recorded no fewer than 99 podiums in both classes of the European championship. The stand-out year was undoubtedly 2024, and the statistics speak for themselves: six victories, wins at more than half of the season’s races and the edge over Maserati in the championship battle.
The basis for the KTM X-BOW GT-XR
However, success on the circuit was only half of it. KTM has also been focused on utilising its motorsport programme as a test bench of the highest quality. The KTM X-BOW GT2 was used as the basis for the road-going KTM X-BOW GT-XR, with the experience gained from racing all over the world flowing directly into the super sportscar unveiled in 2022.
This makes the KTM X-BOW GT2 a flagship project showcasing the technological prowess of the KTM Group as well as a guarantee of sporting success.
