KTM teams well and truly made the most of the Monza round of the Fanatec GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli, with some taking a major step towards title glory. There were victories and podium finishes across all classes, with the highlight being the convincing win for customer team MZR and multiple top-three placings for True Racing by Reiter Engineering.
“As we expected, it was a showdown between Maserati and KTM,” said KTM board member Hubert Trunkenpolz about the penultimate weekend of the pan-European GT series. “Maserati pulled out all the stops at their home race, but we were still in strong shape on Saturday with second and third positions in the Pro-Am classification. MZR then did a brilliant job on Sunday. Now we will take a comfortable cushion in the table to Barcelona.”
Reinhard Kofler and Martin Koch lead the Pro-Am championship by 43 points after their fifth victory of the season. The gap at the front of the field in race two on Sunday was similarly comfortable, with the pair leading every lap of the race in their KTM X-BOW GT2 and crossing the line around three seconds ahead of title rivals from Maserati.
Klaus Angerhofer and Sehdi Sarmini fought hard to take another victory for a KTM team. The pair from True Racing by Reiter Engineering wrapped up an impressive victory in the Iron Cup. Hubert Trunkenpolz and Laura Kraihamer also bagged a second-place finish in the Pro-Am classification, as the pair were rewarded for their flawless performance in Saturday’s chaotic race with a podium.
RTR Projects and razoon – more than racing also picked up some valuable points in Italy. The GT2 European Series culminates with the season finale at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from 11 to 13 October.
