MOST SUCCESSFUL GT2 SEASON IN KTM’S HISTORY ENDS WITH TITLE

KTM is officially the most successful manufacturer in the Fanatec GT2 European Series. As many as seven KTM X-BOW GT2 competed in the hard-fought championship in 2024, against the likes of Audi, Lamborghini, Maserati, Mercedes-AMG, and Porsche taking a total of seven race wins across the year. The season culminated in a title victory for Reinhard Kofler and Martin Koch at the finale in Barcelona. The pair’s championship was rounded off by further success for other KTM customer teams razoon – more than racing and RTR Projects.

The final race of the season was a nail-biting affair for the MZR squad, who had to wait until the very end before uncorking the champagne. The 2024 champions had plenty of challenges to overcome in the Fanatec GT2 European Series finale, as driver Martin Koch explains: “The race started in the wet, with lots of spray and quite a lot of wheel-banging too. I concentrated on keeping my nose clear and steering clear of the trouble.” Teammate Reinhard Kofler, whose sixth-place finish was enough for him to take the drivers’ title, took over the car for the second half of the race: “Unfortunately, there was no improvement in the conditions, but we fought right up to the chequered flag. When we crossed the line the relief was palpable.” The MZR pair finished on the podium no fewer than eleven times throughout the season, five of which were on the top step.

razoon – more than racing provided an impressive demonstration of what the KTM X-BOW GT2 is capable of, with Dominik Olbert and Artur Chwist picking up the win in the Am classification in Barcelona. The third position for Simon Birch and Thomas Andersen helped the team to an excellent position in the championship. The Scandinavian duo were in impressive form in the Pro-Am classification, as were the RTR Projects team, who took pole position and two podium finishes at Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona.

The title victory underlines the success of the GT2 concept, where KTM has prevailed over significantly stronger GT manufacturers such as Audi, Lamborghini, Maserati, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche. The series offered a diverse and high-quality platform for GT2 racing, with six events held across the year, including at storied Formula 1 tracks such as Spa-Francorchamps, Monza and Barcelona. Legendary tracks such as Misano, Hockenheim and Paul Ricard completed a successful year for the championship, which featured more than 100 hours of on-track action. The series is part of the GT World Challenge platform, one of the most popular in GT racing which attracts up to 100,000 fans per event.

KTM’s presence in GT2 motorsport is much more than just a part of its racing operations. The KTM X-BOW GT2 formed the basis for the KTM X-BOW GT-XR, which was unveiled in 2022, and serves as a flagship programme to showcase the KTM Group’s technological capabilities.
