The first round of the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli ended with KTM X-BOW GT2 cars taking a one-two finish and scoring further podiums. KTM teams RTR Projects and MZR prevailed ahead of strong competition from the likes of Maserati, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche and Audi at Circuit Paul Ricard, and the weekend was rounded out by successful performances from other customer teams.

“That was the toughest race I have ever driven,” said RTR Projects driver Jan Krabec. The 40-year-old overcame Martin Koch in the MZR-entered KTM X-BOW GT2 by the barest of margins, with the result only able to be decided in a photo finish. The gap between the pair was measured at just 0.07 seconds. The result marked the first victory in the Pro-Am category for Krabec and his teammate Mato Homola. The pair now lead the championship table ahead of Martin Koch and Reinhard Kofler.

razoon – more than racing and Racinglab provided the perfect demonstration of how well suited the KTM X-BOW GT2 is to entering GT2 motorsport. The team from Graz and the Danish squad were making their GT2 European Series debuts in Le Castellet. Both teams managed to fight at the head of the field and even help KTM lock out the first four positions in Pro-Am.

For True Racing by Reiter Engineering, on the other hand, the first round of the season held plenty of challenges in store. After a difficult start to the race weekend, the team left no stone unturned in their efforts to get both cars in the fight for points. Klaus Angerhofer and Sehdi Sarmini (#16) and Hubert Trunkenpolz and Laura Kraihamer (#17) battled hard, with the Angerhofer/Sarmini duo securing a fifth-placed finish in the Am class.

The next round of the GT2 European Series sees the championship travel to Misano in Italy from 17 to 19 May.
